Parish History
First St Thomas Church
During the 1860’s the vast Anglican parish consisted of Beaudesert, Beenleigh and Southport. This area was divided into three in 1889 with the Beaudesert Parish under the guidance of Rev’d Frederick Robert Newton. In 1888 the first Beaudesert Anglican Church was built and dedicated to St Thomas. This church cost around £600 not including the furniture and was opened for worship on 16th December 1888. Between 1896 and 1899 the rectory and parish room were built. Beaudesert Parish Services were held at Beaudesert, Flagstone, Veresdale, Canungra, Christmas Creek and Woodhill.
During both World Wars, the parish supported the soldier’s families as well as the soldiers on their return. The old rectory was removed in 1948 and a new one built. The old church was removed and construction commenced building a brick church with capacity to seat 250 worshipers. This church was dedicated by Archbishop Halsie on 10th November 1957 as a memorial to those who lost their lives during the two world wars.
All Saints Church,Tamrookum was opened for worship 25th August 1915 and St Davids Church, Rathdowney was dedicated in 1929.
